Cut your repair costs with a heating boiler insurance scheme

Heating your home isn’t that much of a problem in the summertime, but unless you’re in the strange habit of only taking cold showers and boiling the kettle every time you wash up, you could be left high and dry if your heating boiler breaks down. A heating boiler is that hidden part of the home which is rigorously used and not noticed until it stops working. And as soon as it stops working, everyone realises how essential it is and how expensive repairs can be.

If you rent your home, you won’t have to worry about having some money aside for the heating boiler repairs; your landlord will cover it. But if you’re a homeowner, you may want to think about putting a little aside to cover the costs should anything go wrong.

It is advisable to buy a new model rather than getting your ten year old gas boiler repaired, this will cut down the fuel costs too in future years. There are different options when it comes to choosing a new boiler and you should consider the space in your home, number of people you live with and your current boiler when it comes to figuring out which one suits you best. A combi gas boiler is the most widely known, and is good for small homes with few people, or people who don’t want to wait for their hot water. This heating boiler heats up the water through the mains as used and therefore a storage tank is not required. Hot water will be available instantaneously on demand, but if a hot tap is opened by someone else while you are enjoying your shower, you better jump out fast unless you like cold showers!.

A sealed system central heating system uses a single storage tank, usually in an airing cupboard, and enables a large family to have several taps or showers on the go at once, without compromising hot water or water pressure. The benefit of using a system central heating system is that it can be installed quickly and easily in a relatively small area. But if hot water is used too quickly it would run out because the storage tank hot water would be depleted and is replenishment is not instant.

An open vent gas boiler is the norm in most older homes, and takes up the most space; two water tanks in the loft and a storage cylinder in the airing cupboard. An open vent heating boiler provides plenty of hot water that can be used simultaneously, just like a sealed heating boiler, but again here too heating takes time and the pressure is not as good as with a combi gas boiler.

Lastly, one gas boiler type that lets many outlets to be used at once without losing any pressure is the back boiler, however it can take up a lot of room. Usually back boilers are kept in chimney breasts, but it is generally considered unwise to switch to a back heating boiler if you don’t already have one due to the higher installation costs. However, if you do already have a back boiler system installed in your home and it needs replacing, rather than getting a completely new system, it would be more sensible to get a new back boiler installed.

Any malfunctioning heating boiler system requires expensive overhauling and repair. Taking out central heating insurance can provide peace of mind that if something goes wrong with your heating system, your costs will be covered. Buy a good gas boiler breakdown policy which not only covers the labour, repair costs and also provides annual inspections with no call out charge.
