An efficient central heating system is the best way to get rid of the chill of the winter nights. And for keeping your home cosy and warm, you need a good, safe and reliable central heating system, not one that breaks down when the first freeze appears.
The two basic types of central heating systems are called pumped and vented, both of which are made up of a central heating boiler, radiators and usually copper pipework.
The most frequently used system of the two is probably the pumped systems, these comprise of a feed and expansion tank, which works by the boiler heating up which then distributes the heat through the pipes to the heaters. The expansion tank might fill up at times because of water expansion.
The vented central heating system, on the other hand, is a sealed system, and it doesn’t have the centre section. It is basically a closed system, and for this reason, there is no need of water tanks. This system offers a major benefit in that it reduces the risk of leakage and prevents other hazards such as airlocks; colder countries like Russia can reap great advantages from this systems since it avoids the risk of frozen pipes.
So the question now is, why do we need central heating? Is it really called for?.
Well the main benefit of having gas central heating is that it has the ability to warm up the whole house or office at very fasts speeds, and without affecting the air around you. Before the central heating system came into existence, other heaters like electric and storage heaters were used to keep the home warm or even coal fires. These primitive heaters invariably resulted in a harsh, sticky and smelly atmosphere.
These air quality issues were eliminated by gas central heating; but such a desirable environment can be ensured only by periodic servicing of the central heating system to keep it running efficiently and safely. In many houses, these systems are not used during the summer, but as soon as the winters set in, they are intensely used; this should not be done. It is more prudent to routinely switch on the system in autumn as winter approaches, so that any hitches can be repaired by summoning a gas central heating expert well in time.
Airborne dust and other contaminants can also seep into the gas central heating system, necessitating periodic drainage and cleaning. To flush the system, open the valve carefully and drain the collected water into a bucket, while ensuring that no further water gets into the heating system.
