Have you got gas central heating yet

We should all prepare for the wintertime months as the weather gets colder and the days shorter by having good central heating in our homes. By centrally heating your home, you can make it more comfortable, inviting and relaxing.

The typical gas central heating system has copper pipework, radiators and a gas central heating boiler and it is basically of two types, vented or a pumped system.

Pumped systems are probably the more common ones and their main part is a feed expansion tank which acts as the centre core by heating up itself first to subsequently warm up the heaters via the pipe work. Provision is made for water to be filled in the expansion tank tank as well as for expansion of the heated water.

The second type of heater is composed of a sealed system without a central component that is part of the heating radiator. It’s basically closed, so there is really no need for any water tanks and the space they require. The major benefits from this type of system, is that it basically lessens the risk of leaking and stops other possible problems such airlocks, one of the better benefits, especially for colder countries is that there is no risk of pipes freezing up.

You may ask why you need central heating and what are its rewards?.

The major advantage of gas central heating is that the home or work space can be quickly, uniformly and efficiently heated without compromising the quality of air in your environment. Before the central heating system came into existence, other heaters like electric and storage heaters were used to keep the house warm or even coal fires. But these produced uncomfortable humidity and a horrible smell.

Gas central heating ended such problems, however your gas central heating system should be checked and serviced regularly in order to ensure it is running at its optimum. Many families only use their central heating during the cold months and leave them entirely unused during the summer, this is a common error. Instead it is recommended that you gradually bring them into use during autumn so that if you spot any problem you can quickly contact an engineer.

Furthermore, some of these systems also give admission to air and dirt; therefore emptying is a necessity, which should be done regularly with an annual service schedule. The best way to do this is to place a bucket underneath the drain valve and slowly open it to release the water, but just make sure that no more air or dirt is making its way in.
